About the Balfour-Harrop Fire Department
The Balfour Harrop Volunteer Fire Department serves an area of 68 square kilometres with approximately 1458 dwellings and 1700 people, from Crescent Beach on the North Shore to Coffee Creek at Hwy 31 and Harrop to Procter. A fire response is also provided to the Ainsworth - Woodbury area mutually with Kaslo Fire. Our department is professionally staffed by volunteers, who are available for 24/7 response to fire and rescue incidents as well as maintaining the operational readiness of all apparatus and equipment.
The Balfour Harrop Volunteer Fire Department has two fire halls, Hall 1 at 308 Beggs Rd in Balfour and Hall 2 at 6430 Harrop-Procter Hwy. No firefighters remain at the halls; they are dispatched by pager from 911 Fire Dispatch.

The department provides:
- Emergency fire protection and suppression
- Suppression of wildland fires.
- First Responder emergency medical care in support of BC Ambulance
- Fire prevention and investigation in support of the BC Fire Commissioner.
- Mutual aid assistance to other Fire Departments.
- Response to motor vehicle accidents with fire suppression, stabilization, traffic control, and extrication.
- Response to Hazmat incidents
- Rescue services, such as low angle/embankment rescue, ice rescue and response to calls related to floods and natural disasters.
